Allthingsकथक

‘All Things Kathak’ is a research-driven online platform to share stories, research, trivia and experiences around Kathak dance. Founded by Kathak dancer and researcher Siddhi Goel, it believes that to understand an art form, one has to embrace its multiple aspects and not approach it in a linear performance-focused learning. We are creating a community of people who share a common love for stories of art and artists associated with this dance form.

Current area of focus :

Kathak in Bombay Cinema : Films, Ecosystem and Choreography

Supported by a grant from India Foundation for the Arts, the project has been ongoing since two and half years. My field took me to Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Dehradun as well as virtually connecting with many other artists. The research is ongoing, and findings of the research are shared on Instagram, as well as in online talks and lectures. You will find details of it on the ‘community’ page.

This Foundation Project is implemented by India Foundation for the Arts (IFA) under the Arts Research programme.

About Siddhi Goel

I am a Kathak dancer, researcher and teacher from India. I am a disciple of Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj ji, and an alumni of Kathak Kendra, Delhi. I studied Arts and Aesthetics (M.A.) in Jawaharlal Nehru University and have been pursuing independent research since then. In particular, the Sahapedia UNESCO Fellowship 2017 and the Arts Research Grant 2020 from India Foundation for the Arts have been very useful in supporting my research and explorations of my dance form.

As a dancer, I always thought of various fields within my form- the women dancers, the institutions, the creativity process, the musicians, the films- understanding the eco system and the various kinds of work happening within it is simply a reflection of my intense love for what I do and constantly wanting to build and improve my understanding of where we come from, and where we are headed. Thus, people, and their histories has been of particular interest to me. Currently, there is material on Kathak and Bombay Cinema as that is my current body of research. However, as my research on other areas grows, I will keep updating 🙂

This is my space, of what I learn and think, and welcome to my world of AllthingsKathak.
